San Diego CA— St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center (SMSC), a nonprofit organization that serves individuals with developmental disabilities, will hold a brunch to celebrate the unveiling of its solar electricity installation with everyone who made the installation possible. The brunch will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will be hosted at SMSC in the Kraemer-Kleinbub Family Building, located 2119 E. Madison Ave, El Cajon, CA 92019.
St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center serves more than 400 adults with developmental disabilities through nationally recognized, innovative programs. Developmental disabilities include autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and other cognitive disorders for which there are no cures. It is necessary that SMSC keeps the temperatures within buildings at a constant level due to ages, various disabilities and seizures among its students.
The installation of a campus-wide solar energy system began in early June to help decrease the cost of utility bills, reduce carbon footprint and free up future utility funds for direct program needs. The new solar system has a total of 509 panels on the 5 main SMSC buildings and includes a monitoring system to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.
As a result of the new solar energy system, SMSC anticipates a 70% savings on its total monthly electric bill which is currently over $10,000 a month.
