San Diego CA— The Academy of Our Lady of Peace (OLP) held their 3rd Annual Retreat Week at school on Tuesday, January 7th and sophomore students packaged 24,000 meals in only 2 hours to support families in need. OLP partnered with the nonprofit organization, Friends and Family Community Connection . FFCC provided the food and OLP packaged it into sealed meals and oversaw the event.
The theme of the Sophomore Retreat was “Serving the Dear Neighbor.” so we found this service event to be fitting. Within the event, FFCC volunteers also educated OLP students on the causes of food insecurity both locally and internationally.
To distribute the food in San Diego County, OLP partnered with Catholic Charities Diocese of San Diego. They will be distributing the meals at their Food Resource Centers around the county.
