Carlsbad CA— The City of Carlsbad is offering two programs to help senior residents in need:
Pickup Lunch Service
Carlsbad residents 60 and older can sign up for the city’s lunch program, which provides nutritious meals Monday through Friday. Hot meals that are normally served in the dining room of the senior center are being packed up cold with reheating instructions. Reservations must be made no later than noon the day before, Monday through Friday. (Monday’s order would need to be placed on Friday by noon.)
City employees are set up outside the senior center’s entrance behind a table providing the 6-foot separation recommended by county health officials. Seniors are encouraged to do a drive by pick up if they can, driving without passengers to avoid potential COVID-19 spread. The city can deliver meals to those who cannot pick them up.
Call 760-602-4655 to leave a message for a reservation or request a meal delivery.
The Senior Center is located at 799 Pine Ave.
You Are Not Alone
The You Are Not Alone Program is a free service for City of Carlsbad seniors who live alone and would benefit from a daily check on their welfare. Members of the Police Department’s senior volunteer patrol make daily phone calls to each of these clients.
Weekly visits have been suspended temporarily but if senior volunteers are unable to make contact with clients they will follow up with the person listed as the client’s emergency contact.
If they are still unable to ensure their client is okay, a Carlsbad police officer will make a welfare check.
To enroll a Carlsbad resident in the program, call the City of Carlsbad Police Department’s senior volunteer patrol at 760-931-2214.
