Encinitas CA— A protest occurred in the city of Encinitas that drew between 75 and 100 protestors on Saturday morning, April 25, 2020. The event was organized in response to the closure of the beaches throughout the state due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and Governor Gavin Newsome’s State of Emergency Declaration.
The protestors gathered at Moonlight Beach. Several protestors walked onto the beach during the demonstration and sat as deputies began speaking to them regarding the County Public Health Order. The people were given multiple opportunities to comply with the state and county orders. Three attendees refused and were arrested.
The protest began to march towards Swami’s Beach Park where the demonstrators walked along the sidewalk, not impacting traffic.
Once at Swami’s Beach Park the remaining protestors began to disperse and left the area without incident at about noon.
Three people were arrested for health order violations, one traffic citation and seven parking citations were issued during the event.
