Oceanside CA— Monday afternoon, January 18, 2021 at 5:30pm, the Oceanside Police Department responded to an apartment complex located 312 Rancho Del Oro. Witnesses reported a female with stab wounds to her neck and arm.
When units arrived, they found the victim, a twenty-year-old female in a nearby apartment, being treated by neighbors. The victim was quickly taken to the paramedic’s staged nearby for treatment. The victim was subsequently airlifted to Scripps La Jolla with non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses reported seeing the suspect run back into the apartment. Police established a perimeter around the apartment. They observed the male inside the apartment holding a knife. After nearly two hours of attempting to get the twenty-year-old male, identified as Vixiano Cherestal, to exit the apartment, the Oceanside SWAT and Crisis Negotiator Teams responded.
Detectives from the Crimes of Violence unit obtained a search warrant for the apartment. After several more hours of attempting to communicate with Cherestal with no response, the SWAT team made entry into the apartment.
A police K-9 and several less than lethal munitions were deployed, with Vixiano Cherestal being arrested with only minor injuries. Paramedics treated Cherestal prior to being booked into the Vista Detention Facility for attempted murder charges.
