Oceanside CA— Two brush fires kept police and fire crews busy around Oceanside today, June 25, 2021. Around 10:30 this morning, Oceanside Fire Department units were dispatched to a reported brush fire on the South side of the Sprinter Tracks in the Southwest corner of Oceanside Blvd and College Blvd.
Engine 218 (E218) was the first engine on scene approximately 10 minutes after dispatch and arrived on Crystal St. to report a quarter acre brush fire running up the hill, threatening homes on Marcella Street prompting a Nixle Alert by the Oceanside Police Department for evacuations on Marcella. Additional units from Oceanside and Carlsbad arrived and went directly to the homes on Marcella Street.
The forward progress of the fire was stopped roughly 20 minutes after arrival. Fortunately, no homes or property was damaged and the fire was completely out a little over an hour after it started. The fire was contained to the brush and burned about a little over a quarter acre. The cause of this fire is under investigation.
Around 1:30 this afternoon Oceanside Fire Department units responded to several small brush fires along Canyon Drive, south of Hwy 76 in Oceanside.
Reports placed a person starting fires along the street. Battalion 217 arrived on scene approximately six minutes after dispatch and reported several small fires on the west side of Canyon Drive in heavy brush moving uphill towards homes on Walton Street.
Oceanside Fire engines arrived soon thereafter and were able to quickly extinguish the fires before they damaged any property. Engine 213 approached the scene from the South and saw an additional spot fire on the East side of Canyon and was able to extinguish that fire, keeping it to about a 10’x10’ perimeter.
Firefighters remained on scene for approximately an hour doing mop up in the heavy brush, extinguishing smoldering embers. Oceanside Police Department assisted by shutting down Canyon Drive and in investigating the potential arson.
Oceanside Fire Department’s duty investigator was working with OPD as well.
Fortunately, no property was damaged and no civilians or firefighters were injured in the incident.
