Public Nominations for 2022 Ceremony Now Open
San Diego County CA— The San Diego County Women’s Hall of Fame, a core program of the Women’s Museum of California, is now accepting nominations for the 2022 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Nominations will be accepted until Dec. 31, 2021, by completing the form on the Women’s Hall of Fame website at sandiegowomenshalloffame.com/nominate.
For more than 20 years, the Women’s Hall of Fame has recognized females who have made a positive impact in San Diego and throughout the United States with an annual induction ceremony. Past inductees have included astronaut Sally Ride, Congresswoman Susan Davis and Olympian Monique Henderson. More than 100 women have been celebrated since the awards program began.
“Too often women do not get recognized for their achievements while they are still alive,” said Women’s Museum of California Executive Director Felicia Shaw. “This awards program shines a light on the heralded, as well as the un-sung, “she-roes” whose lifetime accomplishments made a difference for our community. We are proud to continue our tradition of celebrating these women over more than two decades.”
To be considered for the Women’s Hall of Fame a nominee must be a woman who currently resides in San Diego County or who lived in San Diego County during several years of her accomplished life. The awards recognize women who are living, as well as posthumous awards.
Nominations for induction into the Women’s Hall of Fame are accepted in the following five categories:
- Trailblazer: Women who were first in their fields or whose individual accomplishments paved the way for other women.
- Empowerer: Women who have significantly improved and impacted the lives of women and girls and created greater opportunities for them to excel.
- Activist: Women whose advocacy and relentless pursuit of positive and lasting social change have bettered the lives of women and all people.
- Cultural Bridge Builder: Women who have used culture as a tool for social change to bring people together and create a more diverse and connected community.
- Historian: Women who have kept our histories and cultures alive by contributing to the celebration, continuity and uplifting of our diverse communities.
Nominations are reviewed by the Women’s Hall of Fame Advisory Committee whose members represent the Women’s Museum of California, San Diego County Commission on the Status of Women and Girls, the Women’s Resource Center at SDSU and other women-focused organizations.
The nominees or their representatives must be available to participate in the 21st Annual Women’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony on March 20, 2022, from 2:30-4:30 pm.
