Update: The victim has been identified by the San Diego County Coroner as Gerardo Cruz-Manuel of Guatemala
Encinitas CA- One of the two drowning victims, pulled from the surf in Encinitas, on May 29th [Story Link] has died and the other remains on life support.
The decedent was a 17-year-old single male who resided in Guatemala. His next of kin has not yet been notified. He was in the San Diego area visiting relatives. On 05/29/2014, he was swimming in the ocean at Moonlight Beach where he was carried out by a riptide. Lifeguards discovered the decedent unresponsive in the water and he was pulled to shore. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was initiated and he was transported to Scripps Memorial Encinitas. He was resuscitated, but remained comatose. His condition declined and death was pronounced on 06/02/14.
