Carlsbad CA— City of Carlsbad Fire Department officials remind residents that not only is personal use of fireworks dangerous, city law prohibits the possession, sale, use and storage of all types of fireworks within city limits.
“Fireworks, even those marketed as ‘safe and sane,’ are best left to the professionals,” said City of Carlsbad Fire Marshal Randy Metz. “In addition to causing severe injuries, fireworks pose a grave fire danger in our dry climate.”
According to Metz, heavier than normal rainfall has caused brush to grow more than in previous years. With recent hot weather, things are very dry, meaning, even the tiniest errant spark can cause a wildfire.
“Many venues in and around Carlsbad provide beautiful fireworks displays that are professionally managed and permitted,” said Metz.
Concerns about illegal fireworks can be reported to the police non-emergency number, 760-931-2137.
Call 9-1-1 if there is an immediate safety threat.
Violations of the Carlsbad Municipal Code can result in fines and criminal charges.
