The city of Encinitas seeks applicants for two separate advisory bodies, including a newly created Skate Feature Committee that will help guide the planning and design of future skate amenities throughout the city.
Applications are also being accepted for an unscheduled vacancy on the Parks and Recreation Commission, which advises the City Council on parks, recreation programs, beaches, trails and cultural arts issues.
According to a city notice published Friday, May 15, the Skate Feature Committee will advise officials on feature concepts and help facilitate communication between stakeholders, including the skateboarding community.
The Skate Feature Committee was created following discussions over potential new skateboarding amenities in Encinitas, including a proposed skate feature at Glen Park in Cardiff. The committee will include a mix of City Council members, Parks and Recreation commissioners, community members and city staff members.
The committee’s work will include identifying potential locations for skate features in city parks, evaluating compatibility with existing park uses, reviewing preliminary concepts and estimating construction and maintenance costs. Committee meetings are expected to occur between June and September, with a final report scheduled for presentation to the City Council later this year.
Meanwhile, applications are also open to fill a vacancy on the Parks and Recreation Commission after member Dan Hare resigned about a month into a partial term, according to the city.
The commission meets monthly and provides recommendations to the City Council on matters involving parks, recreation facilities and community programming.
Skate Feature Committee applications are due by 5 p.m. June 1. Parks and Recreation Commission applications are due by 5 p.m. May 28.
