Oceanside CA— MiraCosta College Theatre Department presents the stirring drama, “The Grapes of Wrath,” based on the novel by John Steinbeck. The play opens April 29 at the MiraCosta College Theatre, located at 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. Eric Bishop will direct.
Frank Galati’s groundbreaking adaptation of Steinbeck’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel won the Tony Award for Best Play and has become a national treasure. This wonderfully theatrical production tells the story of a nation through the eyes of the Joad family, driven from the dust bowl of Oklahoma toward the promised land of California in search of a new home, jobs and dignity. Part naturalistic epic, part road trip and part inspirational gospel, “The Grapes of Wrath” is a soaring affirmation of the goodness, strength and perseverance of the human spirit.
“The Grapes of Wrath” is as relevant today as it was 77 years ago as it reflects a fractured American society that includes the widest income disparity gap in our history, institutional bigotry, marginalized migrants and ecological disasters of biblical proportions,” said Bishop. “It also demonstrates how the best of our humanity, a desire for unity and hope can guide us through the worst of times.”
The cast includes Matt Absosamra, Dylon Andersen, Bryce Ayers, Andrea Bullar, Timothy Cabal, Justin Carty, Travis Charon, Elle Dodaro , Kyle Dowdy, Josef Emmenegger, Mary Rae Fanta, Matthew Fennel, Kiva Fohrman, Sawyer Henderson, Ted Hoehn, Tad Holguin, Makena Hurd, Dickson Janda, Tyrone Jeffries, Reden Magtira, John McCoy, Shane Murphy, Marvin Mosely, Shane Murphy, Carol Naegele, Emily Neifert, Thomas Neiman, Brent Perkins, Geoff Rocha, Anabella Rojas, Stephanie Russo, Griffin Satoda, Kelly Saunders, Emily Scibetta, Alex Smith, Lila Wakili, Caitlin Walker and Sarah White.
