A bicyclist was seriously injured in a reported hit-and-run Friday, March 24, on Aviara Parkway in Carlsbad, police stated.

The incident happened at about 1:50 p.m. in the 6100 block of Aviara Parkway when a vehicle struck the 77-year-old man, according to a Carlsbad Police Department report.

The driver fled the scene, authorities stated. The make and model of vehicle was not described in the report.

Police found the driver in the 1300 block of Laurel Tree Lane, according to the Police Department’s report. Authorities identified the driver as Lawrence Perez, 34, of Carlsbad. Officers arrested Perez on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit and run, causing injury, authorities stated.

Carlsbad Fire Department personnel treated the victim at the scene. The man was then transported to a trauma center.
