A stretch of westbound State Route 78 through the Oceanside-Carlsbad area will be closed for several days to repair weather-related damage, Caltrans and the city of Oceanside announced Wednesday, March 15.

Two beaches in Oceanside and Carlsbad were closed as of Wednesday, March 15, after water testing indicated unsafe bacteria levels, according to a San Diego County notice.

Carlsbad city officials are warning residents about the potential dangers of lithium-ion batteries after two fires in the community in recent weeks.

Carolyn Luna, who served on Carlsbad’s Planning Commission for six years, was named District 2 City Council member on Feb. 15.

Carlsbad residents have until Feb. 2 to submit their candidacy for selection to the City Council’s District 2 seat.
