Editorial: Twitter, story comments cut in favor of letters to the editor

North Coast Current

The North Coast Current and OsideNews encourage readers to submit traditional letters to the editor and commentaries as the combined news site shifts away from Twitter on social media and real-time comments on stories.

North Coast Current and OsideNews editorialThe Twitter feeds of the North Coast Current and OsideNews will go dormant this week as will the comments feature on the news site.

North Coast Current management made the decision after recent changes to Twitter’s operations, which resulted in service disruptions, and challenges involving the moderation of hostile and potentially libelous comments by posters during the recent election season.

Letters to the editor must include the author’s full name, community of residence, phone number and email address. Submission of a letter is not a guarantee of publication. Letters must be no longer than 200 words. The North Coast Current reserves the right to edit letters for brevity and news style. Letters containing threats, potentially libelous statements or solely advertising will be rejected.

Letters and longer commentaries for both the North Coast Current and OsideNews can be submitted to www.northcoastcurrent.com/letters/.

Editorials solely represent the opinions of North Coast Current ownership. The North Coast Current and OsideNews welcome letters to the editor and longer commentaries sharing opposing points of view.
