Assistance League helps students

The Assistance League Rancho San Dieguito hosts its annual Operation School Bell shopping events at the Encinitas Target store through Oct. 29, the league recently announced.

This year, 1,000 students have been invited to attend. Students from Encinitas, Del Mar, Cardiff, Solana Beach and Carlsbad are invited to come with their parents to shop for school clothes and shoes.

Assistance League chapter members are volunteers who fund the shopping dates, the organization said in a news release. They assist families in the boys’ and girls’ departments, at the registration table and at the cash registers. The families are given $70 per child to make purchases.

The Assistance League’s goal is to encourage learning and increase success in school by removing the outward signs of poverty.

In other news, the organization also announced new members in October: Dorothy Brabec, Veronica Gillette, Cathy Jerman, Joy Lappe, Diane Larsen, Stella Ramos and Bonnie Reichle. Sara Woollard is the organization’s vice president of membership.

For more information, call the league’s Fabulous Finds thrift store at (760) 634-1091 or go online to www.alrsd.org.
