Authorities arrested the lead singer of a Christian heavy metal band May 7 after he reportedly tried to hire an undercover detective to kill his wife, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Tim Lambesis, the lead singer and cofounder of the band As I Lay Dying, was arrested at a retail business on Vista Way in Oceanside after an investigation that began May 2, the Sheriff’s Department said in an announcement. Lambesis was arrested after he reportedly solicited the undercover detective to kill Lambesis’ wife, who lives in Encinitas, authorities said.

After the arrest, Lambesis was transported to the sheriff’s Encinitas Station and then booked into the Vista jail on a charge of solicitation of another to commit murder, the Sheriff’s Department stated.
