MiraCosta president announces resignation

MiraCosta College Superintendent/President Francisco Rodriguez announced his resignation March 13 after five years with the district, according to a statement from the college.

rodriguez-francisco-2014-color-updRodriguez is set to join the Los Angeles Community College District as chancellor beginning June 1, according to MiraCosta’s announcement. With more than 130,000 students and nine campuses, the Los Angeles district is the largest of its kind in the nation.

“MiraCosta is a great college with even better people. I have no doubt that the college’s outstanding reputation for academic excellence, responsive student services, and robust financial standing will attract superb candidates to serve as the next superintendent/president – someone who will build on the college’s strong foundation and bold vision to serve students and this region,” Rodriguez said in the college’s statement.

Rodriguez joined MiraCosta College in January 2009. The college district has campuses in Oceanside and Cardiff-by-the-Sea.

“We congratulate Dr. Rodriguez on being selected for this tremendous leadership opportunity at Los Angeles and wish him our very best in his new role,” MiraCosta College Board of Trustees President David Broad said in the statement. “We thank him for his incredible leadership in driving us forward to increasing access and success for students, while maintaining financial discipline.”

Rodriguez will continue at MiraCosta College through May 31. The district board plans to meet soon to begin a search for a new superintendent/president, the college stated.
