The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather statement Aug. 2 for North County beaches, warning of potential beach lightning strikes.
A line of showers and hazardous thunderstorms will pass through the region during the day, the Weather Service stated. The warning is expected to expire by 1 p.m., although heavy rain and thunder were reported in Encinitas, Carlsbad and San Marcos at about 11 a.m.
The region can expect about a 40 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms through Sunday, according to the Weather Service.
