Longtime San Dieguito Union High School District Trustee Barbara Groth lost her seat in the Nov. 4 election, according to preliminary returns from the San Diego County registrar of voters.

Groth came in fourth in a race for three seats on the Board of Trustees. Her replacement, Maureen “Mo” Muir, will likely serve double duty on two school district boards for a period of time.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Groth lost the seat she has held since 1998 to Muir, who is currently a board member in the Encinitas Union School District. Two other San Dieguito incumbents, Amy Herman and John Salazar, held onto their seats.

With her election to the San Dieguito board, Muir would serve on two school boards at the same time. Muir’s term on the Encinitas elementary district board is up in 2016, according to the district’s website.

In the Encinitas Union race, three incumbents up for re-election will retain their seats, according to the county’s results — Emily Andrade, Gregg Sonken and Marla Strich.

The election results are preliminary, according to the registrar of voters, with about 180,000 absentee and provisional ballots remaining to be counted region-wide as of 1:08 p.m. Nov. 5.
