A man reportedly took about $50 from a cashier in a robbery Feb. 18 at an Encinitas Chevron gas station, authorities said.

The robbery took place at 3:54 a.m. at the Chevron located at 540 La Costa Ave. in Encinitas, according to a Sheriff’s Department report. A clerk gave the suspect the money after the suspect brandished a black handgun, the report stated. The suspect was described as a Latino man, wearing black pants, blue flannel hooded jacket, black gloves and blue bandana over his face.

The clerk called 911 after the incident and the suspect ran toward Interstate 5, authorities reported. Carlsbad Police officers and Encinitas Sheriff’s Station deputies searched the area but could not find the suspect. A sheriff’s K-9 unit was able to track the suspect to Interstate 5 but lost the trail at that point, according to the report.

Detectives from the Encinitas Sheriff’s Station are continuing an investigation, authorities stated.
