Work is scheduled to begin this month on pedestrian improvements at two key Interstate 5 underpasses in Encinitas, the San Diego Association of Governments recently announced.

Construction will first begin at Santa Fe Drive and Interstate 5 in early February, followed by the start of work at Encinitas Boulevard and the freeway, according to a Feb. 1 SANDAG bulletin.

The construction — part of the ongoing Build NCC project along Interstate 5 and local railways — will provide improved bicycle and pedestrian access along the east-west routes and will take about a year and a half to complete.

SANDAG advises residents and drivers to expect narrow lanes and occasional traffic delays, as well as intermittent noise and lights. Bike and pedestrian lanes will be maintained along one side of the streets during construction.

More information and updates can be found online at the Build NCC website.
