2019 has arrived alongside opportunities to reflect on the old and welcome in the new. Keep an eye out for these various events to start your year off right.

Wednesday, Jan. 30, 4:30-6 p.m. — Murals of La Jolla Walking Tour: If you’re in the mood for some artistic appreciation, the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library is now hosting tours of the Murals of La Jolla, commissioned public art projects located on private properties throughout La Jolla. Participants will be given in-depth information on the murals and their creators by project curator Lynda Forsha. Sunday, Feb. 3, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. — Sunday Family Fun Day: San Diego County Parks and Recreation will host a day of crafts and activities at the San Elijo Lagoon Nature Center. Guests will be able to experience nature center exhibits, trails and get a closer look at the birds of the lagoon. Experiences vary on the season, so if you’re interested in other dates, visit the center on March 3 or April 7 at the same time. The event will be free and open to all ages. Feb. 9-10, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. — San Diego Nourished Festival: For those with specialized, gluten-free or allergen-friendly diets, the San Diego Nourished Festival is just for you. Held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, the festival gives attendees access to hundreds of brands, products and even informative classes led by industry experts. The festival is divided into the following five zones: gluten-free, nut-free, paleo, keto and plant-based. Thursday, Feb. 14, 4-6 p.m. — Valentine’s Day Romance Coastal Cruise: There are several ways to go about planning Valentine’s Day, so if you’re looking to spend time with that special someone, keep this sweet and short coastal cruise on your radar. While setting sail on a 45-passenger catamaran, enjoy champagne and chocolate and take in the gorgeous coastline with your valentine. Saturday, Feb. 16, 8 a.m.-noon — 5K Paw Walk in the Garden: Looking for a way to incorporate your dog or puppy into your free time? Check out the 5K Paw Walk at the San Diego Botanic Garden. Participants will walk through the 37-acre garden and have access to food, dog treats and pet products. Sunday, Feb. 17, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. — San Diego Fermentation Festival: Fermented foods and beverages galore. This festival, held at Leichtag Commons in Encinitas, features beer, wine and cider tastings alongside live music and a food marketplace. Yoga, acupuncture and alternative medicines will be available for attendees should they be interested in taking part in some wellness activities. Additionally, fermentation experts will host workshops on how to make fermented foods. Children under 12 are free.
