(Update at 5:50 p.m.: Power reportedly has been restored)

Power is out as of about 4:50 p.m. in portions of Encinitas, Cardiff, Olivenhain and northwest Rancho Santa Fe, according to San Diego Gas & Electric.

SDG&E estimates that power should be restored by 7:30 p.m.

While SDG&E’s outage report states that the cause is being assessed, a car apparently collided with a power box on the east side of Encinitas Boulevard just north of Rancho Santa Fe Road, according to witnesses. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department was on the scene, as were SDG&E crews.

Northbound traffic on Encinitas Boulevard was backed up well into Rancho Santa Fe along La Bajada. Power was reported out at several shopping centers, including Olivenhain Platz and West Village, to as far as Village Square near El Camino Real.
