A man was hit and killed by an Amtrak train Wednesday morning, Oct. 30, in Leucadia, authorities reported.
The pedestrian was attempting to cross the intersection at Leucadia Boulevard and North Coast Highway 101 just before 6:50 a.m. while the crossing warning bells and signals were active, according to San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reports. The approaching northbound train then struck the man, who was not identified by authorities.
The railway was closed for a time as a result of the incident. North County Transit District officials provided updated routes and detours via social media during the closure. The tracks were reopened by 8:35 a.m., according to NCTD’s Twitter feed.
The Sheriff’s Department’s North Coastal Station in Encinitas is investigating the incident.
