Deputies from the North Coastal Station in Encinitas were called to the home, located at 470 Arroyo Drive, at 8:11 p.m., according to a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department incident report.

The first responding deputy attempted to enter the home to rescue the man, who was trapped on the second floor. The deputy was unable to reach the man and was taken to UCSD hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, the report stated. The man has not been identified.

The Encinitas Fire Department found the man’s body on the second floor after dousing the blaze, the Sheriff’s Department reported. Sheriff’s bomb arson detectives are investigating the cause of the fire.
