The Harbaugh Seaside Trails, located at the southwest end of San Elijo Lagoon in Solana Beach, are set to open at the end of the month, the nonprofit Nature Collective announced Feb. 8.

The trails’ completion and opening will be celebrated during a private sunset ceremony Saturday, Feb. 22, the organization stated in its news release.

“The grand opening of Harbaugh Seaside Trails is a long-awaited milestone rooted in community spirit,” Nature Collective Executive Director Doug Gibson said in the announcement. “So many people collectively worked together with us to save these views in a symbol of love for community and nature for generations.”

The Nature Collective, formerly the San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy, purchased the land along Coast Highway 101 with the help of donors. Volunteers planted native vegetation during fall 2019.

Work on the trails coincides with the ongoing restoration of San Elijo Lagoon between Cardiff and Solana Beach. The restoration is taking place in conjunction with Build NCC transportation projects across the lagoon.
