Superintendent Andree Grey said in the announcement. “An individual at Olivenhain Pioneer Elementary has tested presumptive positive for COVID-19.”

Federal and state privacy regulations do not permit the release of detailed information about who the person is. There were 39 confirmed cases in San Diego County as of health officials’ March 15 update.

“I understand that it can be disconcerting to not have specific information surrounding the individual,” Grey stated. “However, it is important that we respect the privacy of our students and staff. At the same time, we want to provide you with as much information as possible.”

The district’s schools are closed starting Monday, March 16. Child Nutrition Services will provide lunches, with breakfast for the next day, to district families for the next two weeks at a walk-up or drive-through service at Ocean Knoll Elementary School, 910 Melba Road in Encinitas. Lunch service will be available Monday through Friday, March 16-27, from 11 a.m. to noon in front of the school office.
