Woman dies after being hit by vehicle in Cardiff

A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle along South Coast Highway 101 in Encinitas on Sept. 12, authorities reported.

The incident happened just before 8 p.m. in the 2600 block of the highway in Cardiff, according to a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department report. The driver of the vehicle that struck the woman immediately stopped and remained at the scene. The victim was described as a female pedestrian in her 50s. Neither was named.

The driver and bystanders provided medical aid to the woman, who was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital where she later died, the Sheriff’s Department stated. Authorities did not suspect that drugs or alcohol were factors in the incident.

An investigation is ongoing and the driver is cooperating with authorities, the Sheriff’s Department stated.
