A small earthquake rattled parts of coastal north San Diego County late Monday.

The Jan. 25 quake measured 3.1 and struck about 17 miles off the coast of Carlsbad at 11:48 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

There were spotty reports on social media of it being felt by residents from Carlsbad, Escondido and elsewhere in San Diego County. A USGS user-contributed map showed reports of it being felt as far south as downtown San Diego and as far north as Santa Ana.
