Sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a suspect in Encinitas on Friday, June 18, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Deputies were called to a home in the 1500 block of Eolus Avenue in Leucadia at about 8 a.m. after a report of suspicious activity in the area, the Sheriff’s Department stated on its Twitter account. The suspect, a man, reportedly drew a gun on the two deputies.

The deputies attempted lifesaving measures on the suspect, but he later died at a local hospital, the Sheriff’s Department stated in a Twitter update. The 1400 block of Eolus Avenue was closed as an investigation continued.

No further description or identification of the suspect was available as of Friday afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Department stated that a formal update will be available at a later time.
