Authorities seek help in finding Encinitas assault suspect

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department seeks residents’ help in finding a suspect in an Encinitas sexual assault case, the department announced Sept. 22.

A woman told authorities that she woke up to a man sexually assaulting her in a Cardiff apartment just before midnight Sept. 17, according to a sheriff’s report. The incident happened in the 2000 block of Carol View Drive.

The woman chased the suspect out of the residence, authorities stated.

She described the suspect as a Latino man between 18 and 23 years old, about 5-feet, 4-inches tall and about 120 pounds. The man had a “bowl cut” hairstyle, according to the report. He was shirtless and wore black basketball shorts.

Detectives with the sheriff’s Sexual Assault Unit are continuing their investigation.
