Coaster and Amtrak Surfliner service between Oceanside and San Diego will be suspended Oct. 2-3 for planned rail work, the San Diego Association of Governments announced.

The stoppage of passenger and freight service will allow for work directly on the rail lines, according to the announcement. The closure will also allow contractors working on the El Portal undercrossing in Leucadia to work as necessary, although no specific work is planned.

Work on the rail lines will be ongoing 24 hours a day from midnight Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday.
