Encinitas-based nonprofit San Diego LabRats recently received a $25,000 sponsorship from Ting Internet, which installed fiber-optic internet service in Encinitas and Solana Beach this year.

San Diego LabRats, which teaches science, technology, engineering, arts and math, runs The STEAM Discovery Center in Encinitas. Ting’s sponsorship will go toward funding 700 ESL and Title I scholarships for distribution by the end of the year, according to a Nov. 11 announcement.

The gift also makes Ting Internet a presenting sponsor of the educational organization’s social media marketing through the end of the year, including the launch of a new version of LabRats’ website, the announcement stated. The sponsorship also funds students’ access to BrainStemTV.org, which provides video lab lessons in Ting’s Solana Beach and Encinitas coverage areas.

The LabRats STEAM Discovery Center is located at the Encinitas Community Center, 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive, and is open Tuesdays from 3 to 6 p.m. The center focuses on educating students in grades kindergarten through eight.
