A 79-year-old man died after being struck by a vehicle early Sept. 12 near the intersection of Encinitas Boulevard and El Camino Real, authorities said.

Deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of a collision between a pickup truck and pedestrian just before 6 a.m. in the 1300 block of Encinitas Boulevard, according to a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department report. Deputies found the badly injured victim lying in the street.

The man was reportedly crossing Encinitas Boulevard when he was struck by pickup, authorities reported. Paramedics attempted to save the man, but he died at the scene. The driver was not injured.

Drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the incident, the Sheriff’s Department stated. An investigation is ongoing.
