ENCINITAS — “Nanette Newbry: Upstream and Other Perspectives,” a solo exhibition presented by Carlsbad artist Nanette Newbry, can be seen now through Jan. 12 at the Encinitas Community Center Art Gallery at 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive. Newbry’s 25 paintings, collages and prints utilizes encaustic, an ancient medium that consists of beeswax, damar resin and colored pigment. All of the artwork is for sale. Many of the paintings feature a canoe, both drawn and three-dimensional, which harkens back to her father, a naval officer who spent much of her youth away from home at sea. The canoe metaphor is asking, “What needs to be rescued? When? How?” Call artist Nanette Newbry at 760-458-4427 or email [email protected] for more information.
