Carrie Scott celebrates after her ‘Leap for Literacy’.
Oceanside CA — Carrie Scott, a San Diego Council on Literacy board member was looking for a way to raise money for the Literacy Council. The idea she had, led to her taking a 13,000-foot leap out of an airplane, Sunday afternoon. The ‘Leap for Literacy’ took place on International Literacy Day in the hopes of raising $13,000 to help the San Diego Council on Literacy enhance the availability and quality of literacy services throughout the region. It was Carrie’s first time jumping from an airplane even though her husband, Randy has over 2,000 jumps. “I have always kept my distance from the sport” said Scott.
“When I began my work in this field 25 years ago, it truly was a leap,” Scott said. “As a first-time literacy professional or volunteer, you don’t know what to expect. All you know is that you are excited, nervous and passionate about the cause, so you dive in head-first.”
“It was exciting. I highly recommend this to everyone” said Scott, after returning to the ground from 13,000 feet. The ride up was donated by Tsunami Skydivers in Oceanside. The ride down was provided by gravity with the help of skydiving instructor, Damien Germano, who has 11 years experience and over 5,500 jumps to his credit. Jumper, Nikki Willhite filmed the skydive for the event.
