Pizza Port Named ‘Champion Brewery’ at SD Beer Fest

Del Mar CA — This year, the 2014 San Diego County Fair, presented by Albertsons/Sav-on, proudly presents the 8th Annual San Diego International Beer Competition & Festival – one of the largest in the country, with more than 900 entries from 13 countries and 19 states in the U.S. Although the judging has already taken place, and Gold, Silver and Bronze medals have been awarded, the Best of Show beer will be announced during Session 3 of the festival on Saturday, June 21, at 12:30 p.m.
pizza-port-logo-smSan Diego County breweries entered a total of 53 award-winning brews, of which 19 received a Gold medal. Pizza Port Carlsbad was named “Champion Brewery” by raising their steins the highest and bagging the most awards. Their ’17th Anniversary Strong Ale,’ ‘Carlsbad Raceway IPA’ and ‘Poorman’s IPA’ took top honors and they were named “Champion Brewery.”
Oceanside’s Legacy Brewing Company won a Gold Medal for their ‘Clan Ross Scotch Ale’.legacy-brewing-logo Golden Coast Mead won a Silver Medal for their ‘Orange Blossom’ traditional Mead.
Other San Diego Gold winning brews include: ‘Catcher in the Rye’ and ‘Longboard Brown’ from Rock Bottom Brewery La Jolla; ‘Calico’ and ‘Piper’ from Ballast Point Breweries; “Pale Ale” and ‘White Ale’ from Saint Archer Brewing Co.; “Shark Attack” from Port Brewing Company; ‘Rabiscus Mead’ from Breakwater Brewing Company; “Bacon and Eggs” from Pizza Port Ocean Beach Brewing Company; ‘Low and Slow” from Monkey Paw Brewing; ‘Shake Your Money Maker’ from Acoustic Ales Brewing Experiment; ‘Jurata’ from Coronado Brewing Company; ‘Alesmith Speedway Stout’ from Alesmith Brewing Company; ‘Sin Tax’ from Mother Earth Brew Co., and ‘Aztec Amber’ from Aztec Brewing Co.
Judged by their hops-and-barley-loving peers, the competition awards the best of the best. Beers served at the festival, during the Fair, will be provided by the breweries that participated in the competition. SESSION 1: Fri, June 20 (noon to 4 p.m.)
SESSION 2: Fri, June 20 (5 to 9 p.m.)
SESSION 3: Sat, June 21 (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
SESSION 4: Sat, June 21 (4 to 8 p.m.)
SESSION 5: Sun, June 22 (1 to 5 p.m.)
General admission to the San Diego International Beer Festival, held in the Del Mar Arena, is priced at $58 per person and includes Fair and Festival admission, and unlimited one-ounce beer samples of more than 400 beers! The VIP Brewer’s Lounge includes Fair admission and Festival admission, half-hour early Festival admission, six-ounce souvenir glass to use for unlimited beer samplings, access to a special lounge area featuring specialty beers and food stations for the first two hours of each session, and is priced at $100 per person. The 22nd District Agricultural Association is a State of California agency that owns and operates the Del Mar Fairgrounds, Surfside Race Place, Horsepark Equestrian Center and the Del Mar Golf Center.
