Celebrity Chef Brian Malarkey Joins Taste of the Village

San Diego CA– Father Joe’s Villages announces celebrity chef and national restaurateur Brian Malarkey as its special guest for Taste of the Village on June 26. Tickets are still available for the evening affair that will highlight the culinary arts and St. Vincent de Paul Village programs that help homeless leave behind a life on the streets.
“What an honor for our guests and participants in our culinary arts program to have a chance to meet with Chef Brian Malarkey,” said Diane Stumph, interim president and CEO of Father Joe’s Villages. “Brian will join our guests for an insiders look at Village services while sharing his thoughts on the role of food in his life and career. Surely his message will strike a cord with our culinary arts program students and our supporters.”
Growing up on a ranch in Oregon, and spending summers savoring the fresh seafood of the coast, Malarkey grew to love food and cooking at an early age, eventually leading him to enroll in Le Cordon Bleu in Portland. Along with business partner James Brennan, Chef Malarkey has created seven highly successful restaurants across the United States, including Searsucker (San Diego, Del Mar, Austin), Herringbone (La Jolla and Los Angeles), and Green Acre (San Diego), his fast-casual concepts each with an organic garden. Each restaurant opened to rave reviews, including Time Magazine naming Searsucker the country’s second hottest restaurant.
This year, Malarkey can be seen on Food Network as a judge on Guy’s Grocery Games, Rachael vs. Guy: Kids Cook-Off and Cutthroat Kitchen All-Stars. In 2013 Malarkey was the winning mentor on ABC’s “The Taste” alongside Anthony Bourdain, Nigella Lawson and Ludo Lefebvre. A past Top Chef Finalist (Season 3, Miami), Malarkey has hosted and guest starred in series on Food Network, Bravo, Travel Channel, TLC, OWN and more. He is the author of “Come Early, Stay Late.”
The Taste of the Village will feature a three-course gourmet menu designed and prepared by the students of St. Vincent de Paul Village’s Freddie Evarkiou Culinary Arts Program, along with an insider’s tour of three other vital programs, including the medical clinic, Children’s Area and C15 Transitional Housing Building.
The evening’s menu will include avocado mousse-filled tomatoes, seafood stuffed tenderloin and champagne, all planned and prepared by students from St. Vincent’s culinary training program. Tickets to the June 26 event can be purchased online [Link] or by calling (619) 446-2108.
