San Diego CA— At the first installment of its Crafts and Drafts block party, Bay City Brewing will bring together the best of Ocean Beach and Point Loma for a celebration visible from the I-8 freeway. For one afternoon, the brewery will transform its indoor and outdoor space into a wonderland of local artisans showcasing handmade products. Proceeds from the event will benefit two business-improvement organizations surrounding the brewery – Point Loma Association and Ocean Beach MainStreet Association.
“Bay City sits on the edge of Point Loma and Ocean Beach, and our community is at the heart of everything we do,” says Greg Anderson, co-owner of Bay City Brewing. “The first-ever Crafts and Drafts allows us to use what we know best – beer – to highlight the character and creativity of our neighbors, for our neighborhoods.”
From noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, Bay City Brewing will open its indoor-outdoor tasting room to celebrate neighbors on both sides of the hill. Inside, Bay City beertenders will pour the brewery’s two newest creations– Fog on the Bay, a hazy-style IPA and The Sin Ship, a Baltic Porter. Released in early April, the two new brews have been on tap for less than one month.
On its outdoor veranda, guests can find local craftsmen and women sharing a variety of artistic creations. As attendees sip and shop, children are encouraged to create art of their own on a communal blank canvas. Two locally based musicians – Courtney Preis, an Ocean Beach resident, and Fish and Friends – will keep the block party soundtrack going until nearly sundown.
“Local businesses in our community are the driving force of our community culture and economic impact,” says Ocean Beach MainStreet Association (OBMA) Executive Director Denny Knox. “Collaborations like this fundraiser go a long way to helping our organization invest back in the community with business and beautification programs for our merchants. We are grateful that Bay City Brewing Company considered OBMA as a recipient.”
Known informally as the “I-saw-you-from-the-freeway” brewery, Bay City Brewing has found its home off Hancock Street in an industrial nook of Point Loma where everyone is welcome, including kids and dogs. No tickets are required for Crafts and Drafts, just a free Sunday afternoon, an appetite for shopping local and an appreciation for all things craft – especially beer – in sunny San Diego.
