Carlsbad CA— In just two weeks, craft beer enthusiasts will be able to enjoy a unique new brew straight from the Pacific Ocean. Through a collaboration with Poseidon Water, Pizza Port is creating a specialty Session India Pale Ale called Pacific On Tap. Unlike their usual craft beer offerings, the limited edition IPA will be brewed at Pizza Port’s Carlsbad Village location using desalinated seawater from the Claude “Bud” Lewis Carlsbad Desalination Plant provided by Poseidon Water.
Known as one of the nation’s top craft beer operations, Pizza Port has been developing award winning beers for more than two decades. “As craft brewers, we’re always trying to find new and creative ways to transform traditional beer styles,” said Gina Marsaglia, co-owner of Pizza Port. “What better way to do that than to involve Carlsbad’s very own desalination plant to brew a unique IPA for our customers.”
“The hallmark of craft beer and craft brewers is innovation, which is why Poseidon Water is excited to be a part of this one-of-a-kind collaboration,” said Peter MacLaggan, senior vice president of Poseidon Water. “Pacific On Tap pays tribute to the sustainable local source for drinking water processed at Poseidon’s Carlsbad desalination plant – creating a signature IPA sourced right here at home, straight from the Ocean.”
The largest seawater desalination plant in the nation, the plant started commercial operations in December using reverse osmosis membrane technology to produce approximately 10 percent of the region’s drought-proof water supply from the Pacific Ocean.  Water produced at the Carlsbad Desalination Plant is blended with water from other sources for regional distribution.
“The Pacific On Tap brew will be a west coast style IPA, light in color, and will boast fruity notes of pineapple mango and pine followed by a clean dry finish,” said Pizza Port head brewer Mike Aubuchon. “This beer will go hand in hand with the Carlsbad Beach lifestyle.”
