San Diego CA—August in Southern California is reserved for a special treat exclusive to the region – it’s Hatch Chile season! Each year, Gelson’s Markets creates healthy and delicious dishes that include fresh Hatch Chiles in celebration of their Annual Hatch Chile Roasting event. This year, amidst COVID-19 restrictions, Gelson’s will continue the tradition of celebrating Hatch Chile Season a little differently and will offer roasted Hatch Chile peppers to go. Chiles can be ordered by the case online and are available for pick-up on Saturday, August 8, 15, 22, 29 and September 5 from any of their San Diego locations – Del Mar, La Costa and Pacific Beach.
The Gelson’s kitchens will also offer Hatch Chile Cornbread, Hatch Egg Salad, Hatch Chile/Grilled Corn/Heirloom Tomato Salad, Hatch Macaroni & Cheese, Mini Quiche Hatch Chile, Hatch BBQ Chicken Wings, Hatch Chicken and Cheese Quesadilla and, new on the menu, Hatch Shrimp and Cheese Quesadilla. Hatch Chile Chicken Sausage, Hatch Chile Bratwursts and Hatch Chile Chicken Chorizo are among the many offerings from the meat department.

Hailing from Hatch, New Mexico, these bursting-with-flavor peppers are headlining a variety of Gelson’s gourmet prepared dishes. Gelson’s has long relished Hatch Chiles, a mildly hot and savory pepper that, when perfectly roasted, yields a uniquely delicious flavor, both spicy and sweet, offering a flavor pop that enhances a range of recipes.
