Union-Tribune sold

The San Diego Union-Tribune was sold last summer after five years of ownership by medical research magnate Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong and eight years of common ownership with the Los Angeles Times. The Union-Tribune was purchased by MediaNews Group, part of New York-based hedge fund Alden Global Capital.

Los Angeles Times strike

Members of the Los Angeles Times newsroom guild recently leaders called for a one-day walkout to protest reported job cuts that could amount to about 20% of the news staff. The one-day strike was the newsroom’s first such event in the Los Angeles Times’ 142-year history.

No more San Diego printers

In late 2022, community newspapers throughout San Diego County were left scrambling for printing services after the region’s last facility for such work shut down and dropped their contracts.
