Coordinated ground searches for an Oceanside woman missing since July 6 have been suspended at Palomar Mountain State Park, but detectives continue to investigate her disappearance, police announced Wednesday, July 22.
Angelica Brophy has not been found despite additional searches conducted by several local and federal agencies, according to an Oceanside Police Department update.
The latest operations were led by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team and included personnel from California State Parks, the U.S. Border Patrol Search, Trauma and Rescue team and Oceanside police. Canine teams from the San Diego Police Department, Department of Homeland Security and Naval Criminal Investigative Service also participated.
Detectives conducted three additional searches within the state park after developing potential investigative leads, police said.
“I want to emphasize that there is still no evidence of foul play in this case,” Oceanside Police Chief Taurino Valdovinos said in the department’s update. “However, we will continue to work closely with the Brophy family to locate Angelica.”
Brophy was reported missing to Oceanside police at about 9:30 p.m. July 6. Investigators determined that she was last known to have been at Harrah’s Resort in Valley Center at about 3:30 p.m. that day.
Detectives attempted to locate her cellphone July 8, but the phone was either turned off or had a dead battery, police said.
Brophy’s vehicle was found July 9 in a parking lot at Palomar Mountain State Park. State Parks officers and sheriff’s search-and-rescue crews searched the area over the following days. Divers also searched a pond in the park without locating her.
