Oceanside CA- City bragging rights are at stake as cross-town rivals Oceanside Pirates and the El Camino Wildcats meet for the seasons final regular season game, for both teams, on Simcox Field at Oceanside High School.
The meeting has two teams moving in opposite directions since the start of Avocado League-West action. El Camino is coming off a tough upset loss, 30-7, to the Vista Panthers last week , is 4-5 overall and 0-3, in league play. On the other side, Oceanside is peaking at the right time as the Pirates have sailed through their league schedule undefeated, is 7-2 overall, ranked 7th in the state and 35th in the country.

Oceanside was a mistake prone team, 19 turnovers in three games, in the early part of the schedule culminating in a 30-6 loss at Mission Hills and surrendering their #1 spot in the CIF San Diego Section rankings. Since that loss, the team has cut down their mistakes and have outscored their opponents 151-14 in four games. Pirate QB, Matt Romero has thrown 1,614 yards and 21 TD’s this season with wide-out Mikah Holder on the receiving end of 815 of those yards. Outstanding play by seniors Thai Cottrell and Jace Whittaker, among others have contributed to the Pirates success this season.

El Camino has trouble getting consistent play from their offense led by junior QB, Sergio Lopez, and have been out scored 176-149 over the course of the season. The Wildcats have had bright spots this season with excellent play from juniors Kioshi Mathys, Eric Wilson, Nick Donaldson, CJ Simmons and senior LB, Adam Baker who saw some time at quarterback this year too.
El Camino is a young team while Oceanside seems to be hitting their stride and the match up doesn’t look good on paper but strange things can happen in rivalry games. No matter what, there will be some good football tonight on Simcox Field at Oceanside High School, 7:00PM.
