Oceanside CA- The North County Cobras capped off a perfect regular season, Saturday night by beating the defending UFAL Champion SoCal Coyotes, out of Palm Spring/Palm Desert, 35-10. The playoff bound Cobras used a well balanced offensive attack, strong defense and special teams play to keep their record unblemished.
The Coyotes got off to an early 7-0 lead but the Cobras answered right back with a four yard scamper by former Colorado State star, Ivory Heard. After a couple back and forth possessions, the Coyotes drove the ball down deep into Cobra territory but the Cobra defense tightened up and held the visitors to a field-goal. The second quarter belonged to North County. Pressure on, Coyote QB, Taylor Genusar, forced three second quarter turnovers. Cobra corner-back Herman Nuckols had two, 2nd quarter picks and DB Michael Wright added another.
On offense, the combination of Jerry Garrett to Jarrel Davis was golden for the Cobras as the two hooked up for three touchdowns on the night. The longest was a 46 yard strike down the middle, in the third quarter. Davis’s receptions for first downs were big in keeping drives alive. A strong running game also provided drive sustaining first downs and momentum never went back the Coyotes way. A 1 yard TD run by Ramell Watts in the fourth quarter sealed the deal for the Cobras.
Next up for the Cobras is the Los Angeles Falcons, next Saturday, 5:00 PM at Cathedral Catholic High School in the opening round of the LCFL playoffs. The Cobras defeated the Falcons 17-6 in the second game of the season back on August 31st. That game re-cap is [here]
