Oceanside CA— University of Jamestown head men’s soccer coach Tommy Nienhaus announces the signing of Matt Serrato of Oceanside, California, who will join the Jimmies in the fall of 2016.
Serrato played on the Oceanside High School varsity team from 2012-15 and was named All-Valley League and Midfielder of the Year following the 2014 season. He played on the 2014 Valley League championship team and his team won the SoCal Classic Championships in 2013, 2014, and 2015.
Matt played his club ball for the Oceanside Breakers (2005-2006) and the San Diego Surf Soccer Club (2006-2016).
He was named a Girard Prep Scholar (2013-2016) and is a member of the National Honor Society. In addition to soccer, Matt also competed in cross country and track and field.
“Matt comes from an outstanding San Diego Surf program,” said Nienhaus. “His elite background will give him and us an edge as we continue to push the program to new heights. He’s a versatile defender who’s comfortable going forward. His technique and ability to read the game will prepare him for a smooth transition to the college game.”
The son of Erica and Richard Serrato, Matt plans to major in Business while at the University of Jamestown.
