Del Mar CA -Live it up at the June 7-July 6, 2014 San Diego County “Fab Fair” (www.sdfair.com), then live the experience forever with a brick permanently enshrined at the Don Diego Legacy Fountain in the Fairgrounds’ Plaza de Mexico. Proceeds from this one-of-a-kind opportunity benefit the Foundation’s educational programs.
Commemorate a blue ribbon for your prize-winning pie, your child’s Creative Youth award or how about that famous Turkey Call or any special moment or person in your life. Visit the Fountain to see the dozens of legacies already installed, then visit www.dondiegoscholarship.org to custom-design an attractive brick featuring individualized text and images. You can also purchase a replica brick that will be shipped directly to you. Prices begin at just $150.
Don Diego Executive Director Chana Mannen believes, “The year-round Legacy Brick program presents a priceless opportunity, especially during the Fair and ensuing Del Mar Thoroughbred racing seasons. Your contribution will enable the Foundation to continue providing generous college scholarships to outstanding students. In 2014 alone, we have provided $39,000 in grants to 12 remarkable recipients to attend prestigious colleges around the country. We also use the funds to bring busloads of low-income elementary students to the Fair’s Plant*Grow*Eat program to learn about agriculture and nutrition in a fun, hands-on way. The wide-eyed kids submit their edible plants for judging while enjoying such novelties as petting a pig and meeting a sheep face to face.”
The Don Diego Scholarship Foundation was named for Don Diego, AKA Tom Hernandez, who served as the Fair’s welcoming goodwill ambassador from 1947-1984. The Foundation has awarded more than $639,000 in college scholarships and grants for agricultural education since 1986.
