Oceanside CA– MiraCosta College has been recognized as a Live Well San Diego Partner for its outstanding service and commitment to community health. Live Well San Diego is a program of the County of San Diego designed to serve as a blueprint for achieving improved health, safety and well-being for all residents. Recognized partners are influential, go above and beyond, monitor their progress and are forward thinking. MiraCosta is the first college in North County to receive this distinction.
The County of San Diego is committed to recognizing and honoring those organizations that are dedicated to the best ideals of public service. Designees must demonstrate compliance in five key areas: history; partnership; promotion of positive choices; communication; and policy, systems or environmental change.
MiraCosta College was lauded for implementing the following programs and policies:

  • Promoting positive choices by offering activity courses and an extensive intramural sports program.
  • Providing its employees, students, student workers and volunteers with a drug-free, alcohol-free and tobacco-free workplace and campus environment and emphasizing prevention and intervention through education.
  • Implementing a Wellness Program designed to educate and inspire employees to make healthier lifestyle choices.
  • Preparing its students to work with and care for the growing aging population through a revised Gerontology Studies Program that emphasizes the practical and theoretical issues facing older adults.
  • Actively supporting a Student Health Services program at both the Oceanside and San Elijo campuses to assist students with their physical, mental and emotional needs so that they may achieve and maintain total health and accomplish their academic and vocational goals.
  • Wholeheartedly supporting the Live Well San Diego Initiative and committed to working with the County of San Diego and its partners in promoting healthy, safe and thriving learning communities.

A proclamation was presented to the MiraCosta College Board of Trustees at its May 28 board meeting. Health & Human Services Agency Director Nick Macchione was on hand as County Supervisor Bill Horn made the presentation.
