Free+Skin+Cancer+Screening+Tour+Makes+a+Stop+in+Oceanside-UPDATE

UPDATE: This event has been cancelled by the organizers

Oceanside CA– The Skin Cancer Foundation’s Road to Healthy Skin Tour, presented by Rite Aid, will make a stop in Oceanside, CA to offer free full body skin cancer screenings to the public. At each stop, people can visit the Tour’s 38-foot customized RV to receive a quick and potentially life-saving full-body skin cancer screening in one of the RV’s two private exam rooms.
Educational materials that explain how to perform monthly skin checks at home and the proper ways to protect the skin from the sun on a daily basis are provided to Tour participants, along with sunscreen samples and other giveaways.
The event takes place on Friday, August 29, 2014 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Rite Aid, 3813 Plaza Drive, Oceanside, CA 92056
Local volunteer dermatologist Erik Gilbertson, MD has donated his time and services to the Foundation, and will conduct the screenings.
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S., with more than 3.5 million cases diagnosed annually. The goal of the Tour is to save lives by detecting skin cancers early on and educating the public about skin cancer prevention by means of sun protection and the need for prompt, effective treatment.
Skin cancers found and removed early are almost always curable, which is why The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends that everyone visit a dermatologist annually for a professional skin exam, in addition to practicing monthly head-to-toe self exams.
This year, the Tour will make an estimated 53 stops in 17 states and the District of Columbia, beginning on May 27 in New York City and ending Aug. 30 in San Diego, Calif. Since the Tour began in 2008, more than 18,000 people have received free screenings. More than 7,000 suspected precancers and cancers have been detected, including more than 300 suspected melanomas.
The Skin Cancer Foundation’s Road to Healthy Skin Tour, presented by Rite Aid, receives additional support from Energizer Personal Care – the makers of Banana Boat® and Hawaiian Tropic® brand sunscreens –and BASF Corporation. For more information, please visit SkinCancer.org/Tour.
