Oceanside CA– The American Heart Association (AHA) and MUFG Union Bank, N.A., are collaborating to host a series of Health and Wellness Expos, including one at the Union Bank Oceanside branch 840 S. Coast Highway, Oceanside, CA 92054 on Saturday, September 20. The event, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., is free and open to the public.
The goal of the Health and Wellness Expo is to bring the “No Wealth Without Your Health” message to Oceanside by providing heart health education with an emphasis on its connection to one’s financial fitness. The American Heart Association believes that small efforts toward improving your heart and brain health can lead to big results. The event will focus on the AHA’s “Life’s Simple 7,” which recommends seven simple steps to add years to your life – don’t smoke, get active, eat better, maintain a healthy weight, manage blood pressure, control cholesterol and reduce blood sugar. Participants will receive complimentary blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and BMI (Body Mass Index) screenings. They will also receive a one-on-one consultation with a health professional, heart health information and other giveaways.
“Heart disease and stroke are major health risks for everyone, and African-Americans, Hispanics, Asian Americans, and Pacific Islanders are especially at high risk,” said David Demian, Board Chair, American Heart Association San Diego Division. “The American Heart Association believes that race or ethnicity should not put anyone at higher risk for developing cardiovascular disease. Through the Health and Wellness Expo, we hope to help reduce health disparities in diverse communities by sharing lifesaving information about their leading health threats and empowering them to overcome barriers to reaching ideal cardiovascular health.”
There will be other local community partners in attendance as well, and Union Bank executives will share information and tips about financial planning, such as budgeting and saving.

The Health and Wellness Expo is part of the American Heart Association’s My Heart. My Life. campaign. The Expo is designed to promote healthy behaviors and achieve the AHA’s 2020 goal of improving the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent while reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20 percent.
